Z: You cannot answer this question. There just no longer exists what once might have existed by means of certain artistic schools that _ worked expressively, impressively, maybe neo-objective, that choose a certain direction. This does no longer exist! Unfortunately, we live in a relatively self-diffusing world and everything drives into different directions. Everything strives apart, disparately. In the consequence, it is almost impossible to find answer to that. And even if you wished to express a statement of faith. It would most probably lead offside. It would at least for me and I think also for Inges Idee. We also kind of want to keep all possibilities, which are boundless and at the same tiny, open, to be able to react to them. That’s why there is no strategy and goal for the century that we pursue, but …
Z: Diese Frage kann man nicht beantworten, weil es gibt das nicht mehr was es vielleicht früher mal gab mit irgendeiner künstlerischen Schule, die expressiv, impressiv irgendwo hinwollte oder neu sachlich irgendwas erreichen wollte. Das gibt es heute nicht mehr! Wir leben leider in einer relativ, sich selbst diffundierenden Welt. Das heißt alles wird disluziv, es strebt alles auseinander: disparat. Dementsprechend ist es so gut wie unmöglich darauf eine Antwort zu finden. Und selbst wenn man ein Glaubensbekenntnis äußern wollte, würde das ins Abseits führen. Zumindest für mich und ich glaube auch für Inges Idee. Wir wollen uns auch da irgendwie die Möglichkeiten offen halten, die nun mal so uferlos groß sind und gleichzeitig schon dementsprechend winzig klein, um darauf reagieren zu können. Deshalb gibt es eigentlich keine Strategie und auch kein Jahrhundertziel was wir verfolgen, sondern…

H: Auch keine Kunstwahrheit der Kunst an sich. Das gibt es einfach nicht.
Z: Nope, there is no such thing. But that’s the processional good thing about it, that we can then always talk about it: What’s this bullshit actually all about?
Z: Ne, das gibt es nicht. Sondern das ist ja auch das prozesshaft Gute daran, dass wir dann immer wieder darüber reden dürfen: Was soll der Mist eigentlich?
H: Well I can only say it for myself or for Inges Idee. Art, for us, is when you act artistically and one tries to work out a new perspective on everyday life for oneself. To leave the known prejudices about this world and things that appear strange behind. Simply, try to see them in a new light. This is, what an artist, or what I try to make of it, does all day long. So, very decidedly: Pretty much to look at the everyday world but in a fresh way and out of a new perspective. 15 and more years ago, it could happen, that we built something small in the schoolyard of an elementary school in Berlin-Spandau. A 5 meter high statue of an elongated student. The art teachers were like: What’s this shit? Give us the money for our art lessons! Well, you can’t see it as simple as that. Just the basic understanding: What is art? What value does art in the public space have? Or if the superintendent or the art teacher asks: What’s all this about? You should rather give us the money for our art lesson! To put it simple. Well that just happens to us.
H: Also ich kann das jetzt nur für mich mal sagen oder auch für Inges Idee. Kunst ist, also wenn man künstlerisch handelt, dann versucht der Künstler einfach eine andere Perspektive auf den Alltag für sich zu erarbeiten, raus aus den gewohnten Vorurteilen über die Welt, über Dinge, die einfach ungewohnt erscheinen lassen. Ja, die einfach in einer neuer Art sehen zu können. Das ist das, was ein Künstler oder was ich versuche den lieben langen Tag zu erarbeiten. Also ganz dezidiert: Die alltägliche Welt frischer, in einer neuen Perspektive anzugucken.
Vor über fünfzehn Jahren konnte es eben auch passieren, dass wir etwas Kleines in einem Pausenhof in Berlin-Spandau in einer Grundschule aufstellen: Eine fünf meterhohe, langgezogene Figur eines Schülers. Und dann sagen die Kunstlehrer: Was soll denn die Scheiße? Gebt uns das Geld für den Kunstunterricht! Also so einfach kann man es auch sehen. Einfach das Grundverständnis: Was ist Kunst? Was hat Kunst im öffentlichen Raum für einen Wert? Oder wenn schon der Kunstlehrer oder der Direktor sagt: Was soll denn das? Gebt uns lieber das Geld für den Kunstunterricht. So einfach auf den Punkt gebracht. Das passiert uns dann eben.
