Methods of Art (MOA) is a series of video-recorded interviews with contemporary artists of varying fields and backgrounds. This series explores core questions concerning the making and methods of contemporary art.
- What is an ARTIST?
- What is an ARTWORK?
- What is PRODUCTION?
- What is MATERIAL?
- What is MEDIUM?
- What is PROCESS?
- What is PRESENTATION?
- What is INTENTION?
- What is METHOD?
- What is ART?
Each artist provides answers to the same set of questions that contribute to the continuously growing archive which reflects, and compares, varying approaches, concepts, strategies and methods of artistic practice. This rich oral history archive is used for e-learning purposes in art education and mediation and can be accessed via the MOA-website.
MOA was created by Johannes M. Hedinger (Zurich/London) and Torsten Meyer (Cologne). Since the beginning in 2013 it became a growing archive with currently over 450 videos of 45 artists from Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and USA. In 2015 a first exhibition with material from MOA was installed in Hong Kong at the Connecting Space, MOA was also part of the 3rd Ural Industrial Biennale of contemporary art in Ekaterinburg (Ru).
